Welcome to The Latinx Mental Health Podcast! We are so glad that you are choosing to have a look at our website. Here you can gain access to our social media and fundraising pages, and get to know the team a little better. This will also be where we archive our episodes and post information about our guests and their work. Soon we would like to create a resource list to better help our listeners connect with the community. We thank you for your patience as we work on making this website as fun and user friendly as possible. We often tackle heavy subjects, but we prefer to view our podcast as a celebration of Latinx identity. This is a show about connection not solely with other people, but with ourselves and our place in nature. Our focus on herbal teas and medicine is one of the ways we connect to our environment, and it is a joy to share that with you all.
So, how did The Latinx Mental Health come into being you ask? Great question! It all started with one of Ana and Alejandra’s many meandering conversations over coffee and/or a meal. Alejandra listens to many podcasts about mental health, and was getting frustrated with not seeing herself or her community represented. She told Ana, “We should make our own podcast about Latinx mental health”. To which Ana replied, “We should!” Much to Alejandra’s delight (and horror) Ana came up with a plan and they actually started working on a podcast. Ana came with a built-in crew with her partner, Leo coming on board as our audio engineer and esteemed co-producer. Trust me, we’d sound absolutely terrible if it wasn’t for him. A little later Ana’s sister, Alisa, also know as our communications coordinator joined our team and created a social media strategy. We also joke that she is our resident young person who is hip enough to know what current trends are. Ana and Alejandra are so grateful for her contribution because they’re very intimidated by social media. Finally, and perhaps most importantly is Paloma, a small dog with enough personality to fill a Great Dane. She is instrumental in welcoming guests to Alejandra’s home studio and making sure that nobody forgets she is in the room. Creating a podcast is hard work, and much more involved than we could have imagined when we decided to undertake this project. During that time we have transitioned in our careers, taken on new responsibilities, and struggled with serious health issues, but the joy of sitting down over a cup of tea with dedicated members of the community has meant we have never wavered from our goal. We are excited to share our passion with you, and welcome new connections and ideas. Please do not hesitate getting in contact with us through email or social media. If you have the resources we would also appreciate any and all donations. This will help us continue our work into the future. Thank you. ¡Hasta la próxima! The Latinx Mental Health Podcast Team
